So I e-mailed him this morning to see if there was any news on what the meeting was about...and his boss called him in to tell him that the company wants to pay for him to take a public speaking class. So, no layoff, and I don't think they have any plans to get rid of him anytime soon. It actually sounds to me like they have bigger things in mind for him in the future. Now, of course if the company REALLY falls on hard times, this could all change, but for now, it's a good sign. :)

Very good news! I think I mentioned it before, but B might consider ToastMasters in addition. The great thing about it is that there is a variety of people, so you have to be able to 'carry' so many different types of people along with you. Most employers really support people taking the one morning a week to be just a little late because of its benefits (meetings tend to be at 7 or 7:30 and about 1.5 hrs long). Just a thought. :)
Yes, I think anything to help him be more comfortable speaking to strangers will help. Also, learning how to be clear with your message is also very important. Maybe I'll get him to come in and sub for me one day. That would force him to get comfortable with talking to large groups. LOL. :)
